A DAY ON THE WATER

A day aboard Moose, the vintage 35 foot lobster boat that was thoughtfully retrofitted with convenience and comfort in mind, starts in the late morning. Captain Lauren Walsh greets guests with confidence and mirth that only a life living on the water can produce. The attitude on board is casual but not unrefined.

One If offers harbor cruises and day trips around Narragansett Bay in Newport, Rhode Island. Swimming, sun, and the sound of sea birds are just a handful of the wide ranging experiences clients enjoy aboard Moose, One If's converted lobster boat.

MORNING

As locals with taste who legitimately want to offer their guests an experience that is distinct in the industry, Lauren and Adam deliver an experience that is fresh and ‘locals only.’ After a cruise around the harbor that allows you to get a sense of place, its meaning, and its history, Captain Lauren Walsh suggests you hold on to your hat as she pushes the throttle forward. Given the weather and direction of the wind, a choice needs to be made: Mackerel Cove, Potter Cove or another stop Lauren has up her sleeve. Wherever they decide to throw anchor will be the locale that you will float on quirky inflatables or paddle around on paddle boards. One part Rhode Island getaway, one part Palm Springs pool party, a day on Moose meets guests at the intersection of luxury and the purity that is frolicking in the waves.

EVENING

A Newport sunset is something to be revered; made special. Sandwiches are replaced by a well appointed charcuterie board and the list of evening drinks is extended by the introduction of top shelf liquors from local distilleries. Attire transitions from bathing suits to evening suits— Moose cruises in and out of the harbor allowing guests to breathe in the sweet evening air and say goodnight to the sun. The One If crew proposes a toast in the dying light of day

THE DETAILS

What amenities are on the boat?

First, let’s talk about seating. Moose has ample seating for all, including chairs, a day bed, and even bean bags. Our head (that’s sailor talk for bathroom) is maintained at the highest level of cleanliness and there is a refreshing open air shower on deck. Moose comes equipped with a refrigerator but we’ll also take care of the coolers, ice, cups, plates and utensils. Have a special request or need further information? Drop us a line and we’ll be happy to chat!

What should I wear?

Excellent question! It’s usually cooler on the water. In the Spring and Fall a lightweight jacket and pants are appropriate. Even in the Summer you may want a jacket or sweatshirt for sunset cruises. Keep an eye on the weather on the days leading up to your trip with us—weather has this funny habit of constantly changing.

Leave the umbrella and chairs at home, but wear what you’d wear to the beach. We recommend a bathing suit (and a fresh change of clothes), a beach towel, sunblock, and a good hat. Footwear should be comfortable and soft soled. That’d include sneakers or sandals.

Are food and beverages available?

We are happy to provision your day out on the water. Our crew can put together an assortment of fun, local food and drinks for you and your guests to enjoy during your trip. Just let us know what you're thinking beforehand and we can work to make it happen. You’re also more than welcome to bring your own food and beverages.

Where can we go?

Chartering Moose is like owning your own boat for the day. Want to cruise around Newport harbor at sunset? Let’s do it! Go to Mackerel Cove for a dip? Cannonball! While a guest on Moose, you go where you want, when you want. Just let Captain Lauren know and vroom!

Directions and Parking

There are various options for parking in downtown Newport. The most convenient option is the Newport Gateway Center (1 W Marlborough StreetNewport). It usually has space and it's inexpensive.

You will meet the boat at Perrotti Park. There are park benches on land that you can wait on. Moose will pull into dock C.

Please DO NOT go down to the dock until we meet you on land. The boats captain must accompany you on the dock. Thanks for understanding!

Is the Captain Coast Guard Licensed?

Yes, our captain is fully Coast Guard licensed and has many years of experience operating vessels in Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.
